The job is actual vs estimate by job — labor, materials, subs — not a pretty proposal. Invoicing is a sibling page.

Job costing fails when the estimate lives in Excel, time lives in a text thread, and QuickBooks shows one lump of “job expense.” The job is: budget vs actual by job and cost code, in time to change the next change order. Field invoicing is a different ranking. AI takeoff tools stay on Aiacent.
Knowify is the QBO-adjacent job-costing specialist for trades. Jobber wins when the invoice is attached to the visit. Buildertrend is a full construction OS sold as a quote. QBO Plus is a ledger with projects — not a field system.

- Core is a start. Growing crews land on Connect or Grow.
- Deeper job costing and WIP are not why Jobber exists.
- Your CPA may still want QBO Plus plus classes.
- Card processing is extra.

- A known brand when you hire a PM from another Buildertrend shop.
Watch-outs
- No quote, no comparison to Knowify Advanced at ~$329.
- Implementation is a project. Budget data cleanup.
- Overkill for service-only trades.
- You still need a ledger. QBO does not disappear.

- Workforce payroll can post into the same file.
Watch-outs
- Plus is a ledger, not a field OS.
- Dumping vendor bills as “job expense” without codes still lies.
- Advanced at $340 is a controller SKU.
- If the advisor is Xero, do not buy Plus for the logo.
