Best CRM for law firms (2026)

A firm needs matters, time, trust accounting, and a follow-up that happens. A generic sales cloud will not hold a retainer.

By Gregory GreensteinUpdated September 20, 2026Affiliate disclosure

Law-firm CRM fails when intake, the matter, and the invoice live in three tabs — and trust funds reconcile in a spreadsheet. The job is: one people-and-matter file, time that becomes a bill, and (for most US firms) IOLTA-aware accounting, not just a pipeline.

This ranking is for US solos and small firms under ~50 — not a national Am Law rollout. Clio is the default practice platform. MyCase publishes a full rate card. PracticePanther publishes one too. HubSpot is the generalist skip-if.

Prices as of September 20, 2026. Clio publishes a starting $49/user and quotes the rest. We will not rank generative AI brief writers. Those stay on Aiacent. Not legal or trust-accounting advice.

01

Clio

Firms that want the default US practice platform — matters, time, billing, and a path into Grow

8.5 / 10

Public pricing: Clio’s public pricing page lists plans starting at $49 USD/user/month (Starter / EasyStart-class entry; billed annually in typical Clio marketing). Higher tiers — Core/Essentials, Signature/Advanced, Elite/Expand — require “Get pricing.” We do not freeze retired $89 / $109 / $149 grids from old blogs. Confirm clio.com/pricing.

Clio official pricing (clio.com/pricing), reviewed September 20, 2026. Only the starting $49/user is published; treat the rest as a quote.

You are a solo who only needs a published three-tier card and will not sit through a Clio quote. MyCase or PracticePanther may be calmer. Or you do not practice law — HubSpot is a CRM, not a matter system.

Why it ranks

  • Matters, time, billing, and legal accounting in one system — the firm job.
  • The hiring market already knows Clio. Staff you recruit will open it.
  • Grow exists if intake is the leak. Do not buy it on day one unless it is.
  • QBO and payment add-ons are a known path.

Watch-outs

  • No quote, no comparison of Core vs MyCase Pro at $100/user annual.
  • Payments and AI add-ons are extra. Model the all-in seat.
  • Implementation is a project if you are leaving desktop practice software.
  • Not a marketing cloud. Two systems of record need a rule.

02

MyCase

Solos and small firms that want a published rate card and a simpler practice file

8.2 / 10

Public pricing: Basic $50/user/month billed annually ($60 month-to-month); Pro $100 annual ($120 monthly); Advanced $130 annual ($150 monthly). No setup fee on the public help article dated June 1, 2026. Confirm mycase.com/pricing.

MyCase official pricing (mycase.com/pricing) and 8am MyCase help center, reviewed September 20, 2026.

You already live in Clio and the staff will not move. Do not migrate for a sticker.

Why it ranks

  • A complete public ladder. You can defend Pro in a partner meeting.
  • Matters, time, billing, portal, and payments without a Clio sales cycle.
  • LawPay-adjacent 8am family is a known payments path.
  • Calmer than Clio when you will not operate a four-SKU suite.

Watch-outs

  • Fewer integrations than Clio’s marketplace. Map the ones you actually use.
  • Advanced is where document automation and split billing show up — do not buy it for the logo.
  • Trust accounting still needs a competent human.
  • Older $39 Basic blogs are stale. Use the June 2026 card.

03

PracticePanther

Firms that want published seats and a QBO-friendly practice file without Clio gravity

7.9 / 10

Public pricing: Solo $49/user/month annual ($59 monthly); Essential $69 annual ($79 monthly); Business $89 annual ($99 monthly); Business Pro $114 annual ($124 monthly). Confirm practicepanther.com/pricing.

PracticePanther official pricing (practicepanther.com/pricing), reviewed September 20, 2026.

Your state bar or malpractice carrier already standardized on Clio and switching costs more than the delta.

Why it ranks

  • Published four-rung card. Solo at $49 annual matches Clio’s advertised floor.
  • QBO sync is a first-class talking point for firms whose CPA already lives there.
  • Time, billing, and matters without pretending to be a marketing cloud.
  • A defined Clio alternative when you want to own the admin yourself.

Watch-outs

  • Business Pro stacks features. Model the seat you will actually use.
  • Migration from Clio is a project. Export first.
  • Payments are their own rate card (PantherPayments).
  • Not the hiring-market default. Budget training.

04

HubSpot CRM

Intake-only shops that already have a practice system and only want a shared contact file

6.8 / 10

Public pricing: Free CRM $0. Starter Customer Platform list $20/seat/month; limited-time Starter promos appear. Professional hubs add onboarding.

HubSpot pricing (hubspot.com/pricing/crm), reviewed September 20, 2026.

You bill time, hold trust funds, or open matters in the same system. HubSpot is a general CRM. It will not become Clio.

Why it ranks

  • Free is enough for relationship-only follow-up if Clio already holds the matter.
  • Email logging and meeting links without a practice-management sales cycle.
  • A path into marketing later — also the trap.
  • Fine as a layer on top of a practice file, not a replacement.

Watch-outs

  • No native trust accounting or LEDES.
  • Contact-tier math on paid marketing surprises firms that import old lists.
  • Two systems of record (HubSpot + Clio) need a rule.
  • Do not buy Sales Hub Professional to look like a tech company.

How we picked

The job is a US small-firm file: people, matters, time, and a bill. We scored practice-management fit, published-price honesty, and whether the product is a matter system or a CRM. Litify and enterprise practice suites stay off. AI drafting tools are Aiacent.
