Best shipping software for small ecommerce (2026)
Buy the label. Do not buy a warehouse system for twenty orders a week. Postage is not a monthly fee, until a platform makes it one.

Small-seller shipping fails when every order is retyped into a carrier site, or when a $15 platform is purchased for a volume that a free label tool already handles. The job is: rate-shop USPS and UPS, print a label, and get a tracking number into the order. A warehouse, a 3PL, and sales-tax filing are different jobs. Inventory software is a sibling page. AI ad tools stay on Aiacent.
Pirate Ship ranks first because the software fee is zero and the company says so on the homepage. Shippo is the free on-ramp that becomes a monthly plan after 30 labels. ShipStation is the multi-store desk, and the $14.99 sticker is the entry we saw — not a promise about your volume tier. Shopify Shipping wins only if the orders already live in Shopify and you should not add a second login to buy a label.
Prices as of September 22, 2026. You still pay postage. Carrier discounts move. We are not your accountant, and a shipping app does not decide sales tax.
The short list

| # | Product | Best for | Public starting price | Score |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Pirate Ship | Sellers and side hustles who print USPS and UPS labels and do not need an order manager | No monthly fee, no payment fee, stated on pirateship.com. You pay the postage you buy. The page advertises pre-negotiated USPS and UPS rates, including services like Priority Mail Cubic. We will not freeze a sample label price. Rates change with weight, zone, and the day. | 8.7 |
| 2 | Shippo | Sellers who want store connections and can stay under 30 labels, then pay when they cannot | Starter is free: up to 30 labels a month, one user login, discounted USPS, UPS, FedEx, and DHL rates, unlimited store connections. Connecting your own carrier account is listed at 5¢ per label on Starter. Pro starts at $19/month on the monthly card, or about $17/month ($205/year) on the annual toggle for the entry band. The official plan overview lists further Pro bands: $29 (201–500 labels), $54 (501–1,000), $79 (1,001–2,500), $139 (2,501–5,000), $199 (5,001–10,000), then contact sales. Postage is separate. Premier is a quote. Confirm goshippo.com/pricing. | 8.2 |
| 3 | ShipStation | Multi-store sellers who need more than one person in the shipping screen | Starter displayed at $14.99/month with 3 users, unlimited store connections, return labels, basic automations, and email support. Standard and Premium are the next cards; their monthly stickers did not render as dollar amounts on our load, and the FAQ says you can change a shipping volume tier inside a plan. Add-ons (fulfillment, 3PL, dropship) are extra fees. Postage and insurance are extra. A 30-day trial and a 90-day satisfaction refund are advertised. Plans dated before July 8, 2025 may pay to connect carrier accounts. Confirm shipstation.com/pricing. | 7.7 |
| 4 | Shopify Shipping | Stores that already pay for Shopify and can buy the label on the order | Labels are postage bought inside Shopify, not a second subscription we can separate from the store bill. Paid Shopify plans on our September 21 POS read started at a $39 Basic-class public price, and we did not reload that card on September 22. Carrier discounts depend on the plan and the label. Confirm Shopify’s shipping pages and your admin. | 7.3 |

Orders arrive from three stores and two people pick and pack. You will outgrow a label site. Or you already live entirely inside Shopify and the native label is one click. Do not add a login for sport.
Why it ranks
- The software price is the whole argument. Twenty labels a week should not rent a platform.
- USPS and UPS comparison in one screen is the job for a small parcel.
- Batch labels and presets exist for people who ship the same box often.
- Support is email and chat. You are not buying a dedicated implementation.
Watch-outs
- It is not an order inbox for Shopify, Etsy, and eBay together. If you copy-paste, you will miss an order.
- International labels can put your phone number on the form. Read that before you ship abroad.
- Discounts are not a contract you can take to a bank. A carrier can change a rate.
- Returns portals, pick paths, and inventory forecasting are why the other rows exist.

Shippo

You already paste into Pirate Ship and you are under a few dozen labels. Shippo’s free tier is a similar job with a cap. Or you need warehouse scans. That is ShipStation’s higher story, after you read the tier.
Why it ranks
- Thirty free labels is a real trial of store sync, not a three-day demo.
- The Pro ladder is printed. You can see the month you leave Pirate Ship.
- Branded tracking and your own carrier accounts are the Pro reasons, not a prettier logo.
- Five logins at the $19 band is enough for a tiny pick team.
Watch-outs
- Label counts reset on a 30-day cycle from signup, not necessarily the calendar month. Read that before you bunch orders.
- Address validation and API calls that are not a Shippo label can bill separately. The pricing page says so.
- Estimated delivery dates are marketed with AI. They are not why you buy the plan.
- Annual Pro is prepaid. The help article says no refund if you cancel mid-year. Confirm current terms.

ShipStation
Multi-store sellers who need more than one person in the shipping screen
Public pricing: Starter displayed at $14.99/month with 3 users, unlimited store connections, return labels, basic automations, and email support.

You ship from one shop and one person. Pirate Ship or Shippo Starter is the bill. ShipStation’s warehouse language is how a small brand buys a system it will not staff.
Why it ranks
- Three users on the entry plan matches a founder plus a packer. Pirate Ship does not have that desk.
- Store connections are not an extra fee on the current card. That used to be the gotcha.
- Returns, automation rules, and branded emails are the reason to leave a free label tool.
- You can bring carrier accounts. Negotiate with UPS yourself if you have the volume. Do not assume the platform rate is your best rate.
Watch-outs
- $14.99 is the sticker we saw, not a quote for your label count. Ask which volume tier you land in before you compare it to Shippo’s $19.
- Premium’s inventory forecasting and implementation is a warehouse. Most readers should not be there.
- An AI copilot is marked coming soon on the grid. Ignore it.
- Older accounts can still pay carrier-connection fees. Read the July 8, 2025 note if you are not new.

Shopify Shipping
Stores that already pay for Shopify and can buy the label on the order
Public pricing: Labels are postage bought inside Shopify, not a second subscription we can separate from the store bill. Paid Shopify plans on our September 21 POS read started at a $39 Basic-class public price, and we did not reload that card on September 22. Carrier discounts depend on the plan and the label. Confirm Shopify’s shipping pages and your admin.

You also ship Etsy, Amazon, or a wholesale channel every day. Shopify’s label does not manage those orders. Or you do not have a Shopify store. Do not subscribe to a store to get a shipping login.
Why it ranks
- The order, the label, and the tracking email can stay in one admin. That is the job if Shopify is already the store.
- You avoid a sync that breaks on the week you are busiest.
- A second shipping subscription is justified when the other channels are real, not theoretical.
- Returns can start in the same admin the customer already used.
Watch-outs
- The $39 figure is a prior read. Your plan, your contract, and any promo may differ.
- Third-party carriers and non-Shopify Payments have their own fees. Read the admin, not a blog.
- This does not reconcile payouts. Ecommerce accounting is the close.
- A free Pirate Ship account can still beat the in-admin rate on a given box. Check one heavy shipment before you standardize.
How we picked
The job is parcel labels for a US seller under a small team, not a freight company and not a 3PL contract. We scored whether the software fee is real, whether store connections exist, and whether volume tiers are hidden. We did not score AI delivery estimates. Rank is not for sale.
September 22 napkin: Pirate Ship’s software line is $0 plus postage. Shippo is $0 through 30 labels, then Pro from $19 in the month you cross it, with the next band at $29 after 200. ShipStation Starter showed $14.99 and three users, and we will not call that your volume tier. Shopify is the store subscription you already pay, last seen from $39, plus postage. If those platform fees are larger than the postage you save, you bought a dashboard.
Who should skip this page
- A retail counter that ships twice a month. Your POS or Pirate Ship is enough. See the retail POS ranking only if the leak is the register.
- Freight, pallets, and LTL as the main job. ShipStation talks about it. Get a written freight quote. This list is parcels.
- Sellers whose leak is the books, not the label. Ecommerce accounting and the Etsy bookkeeping page.
- Anyone shopping an AI that writes product listings. Aiacent.
