Best business banking for ecommerce (2026)

Payouts need a business-named account. Shopify’s dashboard is not a bank. Separate tax and ad spend or you will raid Friday’s inventory bill.

By Gregory GreensteinUpdated September 20, 2026Affiliate disclosure

Ecommerce banking fails when Shopify, Amazon, and Etsy payouts hit a personal checking account and ads come off the same debit as rent. The job is: a business-named account, a place processors can settle, and (ideally) buckets for tax, inventory, and ads. The channel dashboard is not a bank.

Mercury wins when wires and a two-founder admin matter. Relay wins when you will actually open envelopes. Novo is plain $0 checking. Chase is the branch if you deposit cash or a lender requires it. Shopify Balance and similar channel-bank products are extras — confirm the live program and do not treat them as the only operating account without reading eligibility.

LLC banking and startup checking are siblings. Ecommerce accounting is the ledger page. Etsy bookkeeping is the Etsy-first file. This page is the account payouts land in.

Mercury

Shopify/Amazon brands that want $0 checking, free USD wires, and a clean admin

8.5 / 10

Public pricing: Standard checking $0 monthly. Paid software from $35/month for extra workflows. Confirm mercury.com/pricing.

Mercury pricing and banking pages, reviewed September 21, 2026.

Skip if

You deposit cash or want twenty envelopes. Chase or Relay. Restricted categories — read eligibility.

Why it ranks

  • Free ACH and free domestic / USD international wires on the published banking page we reviewed — useful for overseas 1099s and suppliers.
  • A two-founder admin that is not a shared personal login.
  • A known destination for Stripe and Shopify settlements.
  • See Is Mercury banking worth it.

Watch-outs

  • Not a branch. Cash is not the product.
  • Eligibility and industry restrictions apply.
  • Paid software is optional. You are not forced into $35 to hold cash.
  • Cards on the account are not Ramp. See expense cards.

02

Relay

Operators who will bucket tax, inventory, ads, and payroll

8.3 / 10

Public pricing: Starter $0/month with a published cap on accounts and cards. Grow and Scale publicly listed around $30 and $120/month. Confirm relayfi.com.

Relay public site, reviewed September 21, 2026.

Skip if

You will not open the extra accounts. Relay is a philosophy. Mercury is calmer.

Why it ranks

  • Envelopes are the ecommerce job: sales tax, inventory PO, Meta ads, owner pay.
  • Debit cards per bucket make “who spent that” shorter.
  • Starter is enough until approvals matter.
  • See Is Relay worth it and Mercury vs Relay.

Watch-outs

  • If you will not use buckets, you bought a UI.
  • Paid tiers exist for a reason.
  • Same fintech-plus-partner-bank model.
  • Cash deposits are not why Relay exists.

03

Novo

Smaller shops that want simple $0 checking without a treasury desk

7.6 / 10

Public pricing: Novo advertises no monthly fees on business checking. Extras can carry fees. Confirm novo.co.

Novo public banking pages, reviewed September 21, 2026.

Skip if

Wires or envelopes are weekly. Mercury or Relay.

Why it ranks

  • Low-drama home for Stripe and Etsy payouts.
  • Faster than a branch appointment.
  • See Is Novo worth it.
  • Fine year-one before Mercury’s admin matters.

Watch-outs

  • Less wire and envelope depth.
  • Read partner-bank disclosures.
  • Not the cash-deposit bank.
  • Migrating processors later is a weekend of vendor updates.

04

Chase Business Complete

Sellers who deposit cash, need a lender, or want a routing number counterparties already know

7.4 / 10

Public pricing: Monthly service fee with waiver conditions. Confirm chase.com — we will not quote a waiver that changes by market.

chase.com business checking, reviewed September 21, 2026.

Skip if

You will never walk into a branch and refuse monthly fees. The $0 fintechs above are built for you.

Why it ranks

  • Cash, checks, a human.
  • Useful when a wholesaler or merchant account wants a traditional bank.
  • Credit and merchant services as a broader relationship if you later want them.
  • Not a fintech wrapper. Some owners sleep better.

Watch-outs

  • Monthly fees unless you hit the waiver.
  • Wires are rarely free in the Mercury sense.
  • Onboarding can mean a branch appointment.
  • Software admin is weaker than Relay.

How we picked

The job is US ecommerce operating cash: $0 if possible, payouts, optional envelopes, a skip-if for cash. We scored fee honesty and partner-bank disclosure. Bluevine stays on the LLC ranking if yield is the driver. Found is solopreneur-shaped — see freelancer banking.

Who should skip this page

  • Freelancers without a store — freelancer banking.
  • Startups raising — startup checking.
  • Sellers who still mix payouts with rent — fix that first. See banking mistakes.
  • Anyone treating a channel “balance” product as FDIC advice from Incacent.
