Is Justworks worth it in 2026?
Justworks Payroll can be worth it as published multi-state software. Justworks PEO is worth it only if you mean to co-employ the company for benefits. Those are not the same buy.

Short answer
Yes on the Payroll plan — if you want a published US bill with multi-state payroll on the feature table and you will not click into a PEO. As of September 22, 2026 that plan is $50/month plus $8 per employee. No on PEO Plus — unless group medical, dental, and vision administration is the actual job and you have read a co-employment agreement. PEO Basic is $79 per employee with no base fee. PEO Plus is $124 per employee. Ten people on Plus is $1,240/month, not a nicer Gusto. We are not your employment counsel, and we are not your accountant.
Best HR software for startups is the short list that put Justworks next to Gusto on purpose. Best payroll for multi-state small businesses is the filing fork. Is Gusto worth it is the software default this page keeps getting compared to.
The September 22, 2026 math
Loaded from justworks.com/pricing. Payroll: $50 base + $8 per employee, and the feature table lists multi-state payroll, tax filings, W-2s, and 1099s on that column. PEO Basic: $79 per employee, no base — compliance, HR consulting tools, 401(k), workers’ comp access. PEO Plus: $124 per employee — Basic plus medical, dental, and vision administration. EOR is $599 per employee. Time tracking is an $8 per employee add-on. International contractors are $39 per paid contractor. ICHRA is $25 per enrolled employee. No implementation fee is advertised. Confirm the page. Premiums for insurance are not these software numbers.
- Five employees, Payroll: $50 + $40 = $90/month. Gusto Simple, one state, is $49 + $30 = $79 on the card we last read. You are close.
- Ten employees, Payroll: $50 + $80 = $130. OnPay’s September 21 card is $49 + $60 = $109 if multi-state is included. Gusto Plus is $80 + $120 = $200.
- Ten employees, PEO Basic: $790/month. PEO Plus: $1,240/month. Before the medical premium.
- Time tracking on ten people is another $80. Add it only if you will use it.
When Justworks is worth it
- You want Payroll’s published multi-state list and a phone number, and $130 for ten people is a bill you can defend against Gusto Plus.
- Group benefits are the reason you are shopping, you will enroll through the PEO, and you accept co-employment with your eyes open.
- A broker’s Paychex or ADP quote is a fog, and you want a public PEPM before the demo. Write Justworks’ number down first, then make them beat it.
- You hire a contractor abroad sometimes. The $39 international-contractor add-on is a line item, not a reason to buy EOR at $599.
When it is not worth it
- First hire, one state, no benefits drama. Gusto Simple is the napkin. See how to choose payroll for your first employee.
- Two states and you only need filings. Compare OnPay’s single published SKU before you pay $8 PEPM plus a $50 base.
- You clicked PEO Plus because the grid mentioned fertility benefits and you have six people. Model $124 times headcount. Then talk to a broker about the premium, which is extra.
- You need an HRIS for performance reviews and you already have a payroll vendor. BambooHR is that split. Rippling is the quote when laptops are the fire.
- You wanted global employees. EOR at $599 per person is a different product. Do not discover that on the invoice.
- Workers’ comp “access” sounds like a policy was chosen for you. It was not. Buy the coverage your state requires with someone who does that work.
Honest alternatives
Gusto if the job is payday plus benefits administration without co-employment. OnPay if the job is a published multi-state filing bill. Square Payroll if hours already live on Square. ADP RUN or Paychex if a CPA already lives there and the quote beats these stickers after year two. Rippling if IT provisioning is the weekly pain and you will sit through an implementation. None of those is a recommendation to drop health insurance. They are a recommendation not to buy a PEO by accident.
