Best e-signature software for small business (2026)
The job is a PDF someone signs this week, with an audit trail. A proposal studio is a different page. An AI that drafts the contract is not this site.

E-signature software fails when the NDA, the vendor agreement, or the lease still lives in a Gmail thread with a “looks good” reply. The job is: send a document you already wrote, get a signature, keep a trail a lawyer or a CPA can open later. This page is that sender. Proposal software is the sibling if the document is also the sales page. We do not rank tools that draft the contract. That catalog is Aiacent.
Dropbox Sign ranks first for a founder who sends more than a handful of documents and wants unlimited requests on a published bill. DocuSign ranks next when the other side already lives there, and you will live inside the envelope cap. PandaDoc is the document workflow if the SOW is the product. Bonsai is the freelancer suite if proposals and invoices are the same login — and we will not freeze a price we did not reload.
Prices as of September 22, 2026. Dropbox Sign’s card rendered in dollars. DocuSign’s US plans URL geo-rendered without stickers on our direct load; the annual-commitment figures below are from that same official URL’s US card as captured this month. Confirm the checkout. We are not your lawyer, and a signed PDF is not a reviewed contract.

You send three documents a month or fewer and a free cap is fine. Or the counterparty’s counsel will only accept a DocuSign envelope. Buy the thing they will open.
Why it ranks
- Unlimited signature requests on the paid plans. You are not buying a stack of envelopes.
- Essentials is one sender, five templates, and the integrations a small shop already has: Google, Microsoft, HubSpot.
- Standard is the week a second person sends. The jump is seats and admin, not a surprise overage.
- Signers do not pay and do not need an account. That is the whole product.
Watch-outs
- The $10.05 and $17.50 stickers are a first-year promotion. Model year two at $15 and $25.
- Standard’s public card stops at five users and says contact sales after that. A six-person sending team is a quote.
- Essentials is not a team. Shared templates, bulk send, and branding sit on Standard.
- It will not write the agreement. If the leak is the words, this rank does not help.

DocuSign
Founders whose customers, landlords, or investors already expect a DocuSign envelope
Public pricing: US annual-commitment totals on the official eSignature plans page, as captured in September 2026: Personal $132/year ($11/month), Standard $360 per user per year ($30/month), Business Pro $540 per user per year ($45/month). You send dozens of ordinary PDFs a month and you do not need the brand. Dropbox Sign’s unlimited requests are the cheaper honest bill. Or you wanted a proposal that takes a deposit. That is PandaDoc or the proposal ranking.
Why it ranks
- The other party’s lawyer has seen this logo. That is a real reason, not a feature matrix.
- Personal at $11 is a sole proprietor who signs a few agreements a month and will not pretend to be a team.
- Business Pro is the plan that collects a payment during signing. Most shops do not need that on day one.
- A 30-day refund is advertised for annual plans bought on DocuSign’s site. Read who qualifies.
Watch-outs
- 100 envelopes per user per year is about eight a month. A busy freelancer blows Personal’s five, then blows Standard’s hundred, and the overage is not on this page.
- Standard at $30 per user is a different invoice than Dropbox Sign Essentials at $15 for unlimited sends.
- IAM is an agreement platform with AI in the pitch. It is not how you get a W-9 signed. Leave generative contract tools on Aiacent.
- We are not saying a DocuSign envelope makes a clause enforceable. That is counsel.
03
PandaDoc
Small teams whose document is a scoped offer, not a one-page NDA
Public pricing: Free plan, Starter $19/user/month, and Business $49/user/month on the annual public cards we reviewed September 20, 2026. We did not reload pandadoc.com/pricing on September 22. Confirm the live card before you multiply seats.

You only need a signature on a PDF you already finished. PandaDoc is a workflow. Dropbox Sign is the sender.
Why it ranks
- Templates, a content library, and who opened the document. That is the sales job, not the NDA job.
- Published per-seat math. Two seats on Starter annual is $38/month on the card we last read.
- Sits next to a CRM later. You are not forced into a studio booking tool.
- The proposal ranking already put it second for freelancers. This page is the signature fork of the same product.
Watch-outs
- Business at $49 a seat is an agency bill. A solo NDA does not need it.
- Starter is not a full accounts-receivable suite. You still need a place to get paid.
- Free caps find a working freelancer. Read them before you migrate a HoneyBook flow.
- Do not buy it because an AI block can draft a section. The job is the signed scope.
04
Bonsai
Independent consultants who want the contract in the same login as the invoice
Public pricing: Bonsai publishes freelancer packs on hellobonsai.com/pricing. The stickers did not render a number we will print on this September 22 pass. Confirm the live card. We will not copy a remembered range onto this page.

You already send from Dropbox Sign and invoice in FreshBooks or Wave. A third suite is a migration, not a feature.
Why it ranks
- The consultant job is proposal, contract, and invoice. Bonsai is built as that suite.
- A client who is a company may still prefer PandaDoc’s document. You can use both only if one system owns the signature.
- Useful when HoneyBook feels like a wedding studio and DocuSign feels like a legal department.
- Time tracking can sit next door if the bill is hours. That is optional, not why it ranks.
Watch-outs
- No number on this page means no napkin. Open the pricing page before you compare it to $15.
- It is not the deepest e-sign and not the CPA’s ledger.
- Feature packs get restacked. The plan name you remember may not be the plan you buy.
- Export if you later standardize on QuickBooks Online.
How we picked
The job is a US freelancer or team under ~50 sending documents they already wrote. We scored unlimited sends versus envelope caps, whether a second sender changes the plan, and whether the product is secretly a proposal studio. We did not score AI drafting. Rank is not for sale. Hands-on use is not claimed; these are public cards and product pages.
September 22 napkin, one sender, ignoring promotions: Dropbox Sign Essentials $15/month or $180/year for unlimited requests. DocuSign Personal $11/month for five envelopes. The week you send a sixth, Personal is the wrong plan and Standard is $30 per user with a 100-envelope year. Two Dropbox Sign senders on Standard’s list price start at $600/year. Two PandaDoc Starter seats were $38/month on the September 20 card. Bonsai is unpriced here on purpose.
Who should skip this page
- Photographers and coaches who need a proposal, a date, and a deposit. Use the proposal ranking or the coach CRM.
- Landlords whose lease tool already collects a signature. Avail and TenantCloud are on the property-management ranking.
- A law firm that needs a practice system. This is not Clio.
- Anyone shopping an AI contract writer. That is Aiacent, and it is still not legal advice.
