Melio vs BILL.com for AP in 2026
Pick Melio if vendor bills are the leak and you will pay ACH. Pick BILL if the bookkeeper already lives in that network and you will pay per user. Do not buy Corporate to look like a controller.

Verdict
Pick Melio if you are a US shop that pays a stack of vendors, wants approvals, and will use ACH instead of mailing checks or putting the landlord on a personal card. Pick BILL if your bookkeeper already has a login in that network and you will model seats at $49 / $65 / $89 per user — not the headline. Do not pick Melio as a travel-and-expense suite. Do not pick BILL Essentials for two bills a month.
This is complementary to Is Melio worth it and Best bill pay software for small business. Is Ramp worth it is the card-plus-AP fork. We are not your accountant. ACH is the cheap rail. Card-to-vendor fees fund a lot of “free” software.
Two jobs
Melio’s job is SMB accounts payable: capture the bill, approve it, pay ACH, post something a ledger can take. A free Go-class plan exists. Paid Core / Boost / Unlimited are commonly listed from about $25 / $55 / $80 per month. QBO sync is a known path. Vendors get a link. You do not share the operating login. That is why Melio sits as the Incacent default on the bill-pay ranking.
BILL’s job is an accountant-network AP/AR suite. Many US bookkeepers already live there. Accounts Payable / Receivable publishes Essentials $49/user/month, Team $65, Corporate $89 on bill.com/product/pricing. Spend & Expense software is $0/user (cards require approval). Transaction fees apply. Implementation is a project if you are leaving a shoebox. Five users on Essentials is $245/month before payment fees.
Ramp includes bill pay on a spend platform — Free $0 / Plus $15+platform — if cards and policy are the rest of the job. Relay is banking with payments, not a full AP desk. QBO bill pay or the bank’s bill pay is enough if volume is tiny. Two AP tools is how you double-pay. Appoint one closer of vendor bills.
Public pricing as of September 21, 2026
Melio: free Go-class plan and paid Core / Boost / Unlimited commonly listed from about $25 / $55 / $80 per month. ACH is the cheap way to pay. Paying a vendor by card costs more — that fee is how “free AP” is funded when you choose plastic. Confirm melio.com/pricing.
BILL: AP/AR Essentials $49/user/month; Team $65; Corporate $89. Spend & Expense software $0/user. Transaction fees apply. Confirm bill.com/product/pricing. Approval-only seats exist on higher tiers — ask.
- Ten ACH vendor payments on Melio Go: often $0 software if you stay in the free cap.
- Melio Core at ~$25 if you need the next tier of users/approvals.
- One $5,000 vendor paid by card at a few percent can exceed a year of Melio Core. Prefer ACH.
- Two BILL Essentials users: $98/month before payment fees. Five users: $245.
- Ramp Free includes bill pay if you are already on Ramp. Do not stack Melio on top.
Who should pick which
- Founder plus a bookkeeper, stack of vendors, will use ACH: Melio.
- Bookkeeper already in the BILL network and will not leave: BILL — model seats.
- Cards, receipts, and policy are the leak: Ramp. See Is Ramp worth it.
- Two bills a month from the bank and it works: stay. Do not buy software.
- International vendors as a habit: read both vendors’ rails before you assume ACH is enough.
- You wanted employee cards, not vendor links: Ramp or BILL Spend — not Melio Go.
Skip-ifs
Skip Melio if you already pay bills inside Ramp or QBO and it is fine. Skip BILL if you wanted $0 software and ten ACH payments. Skip both if you will pay every vendor by card “for points” and ignore the fee. Skip buying Corporate to impersonate a controller. AI AP bots stay on Aiacent. Confirm official URLs. This is not tax advice.
