Rippling vs BambooHR in 2026
BambooHR wins when you already have payroll and need a people file. Rippling wins when HR, IT, and payroll must share one employee record — and you have a written quote.

Verdict
Pick BambooHR if payday already files (Gusto, Workforce, ADP) and the leak is records, time off, and a light ATS. Pick Rippling if laptops, app access, and payroll are the same weekly fire — and the quote is in writing. Do not pick Rippling because a Slack thread said “system of record.” Do not pick BambooHR Elite to impersonate a compensation team of twelve.
This is not Rippling vs Gusto. Gusto is payroll. BambooHR is an HRIS you usually park next to payroll. Rippling wants to be the record that provisions both. If you only need payday, leave this page and read Rippling vs Gusto.
Public pricing as of September 20, 2026
BambooHR: Core $10, Pro $17, Elite $25 per employee/month for companies over 25 employees. At 25 employees or fewer, BambooHR charges a monthly flat starting at $250. Payroll, benefits admin, and time are add-ons. Confirm bamboohr.com/pricing.
Rippling does not publish a durable national rate card. Materials have described HRIS and payroll around $8 PEPM each, sometimes with a platform fee. That is not your number. Treat the live quote as the price — modules, implementation, and devices included.
- Twenty people, BambooHR Core floor: $250/month, plus whatever you already pay Gusto.
- Thirty people, BambooHR Core: $10 × 30 = $300/month before add-ons.
- Thirty people, Rippling: unknown until modules land on paper.
- Ten people: the $250 BambooHR floor often loses to “just use Gusto” unless records are already a mess.
People file vs employee record
BambooHR’s product is the people system of record: profiles, PTO, workflows, a light ATS, performance on Pro. You keep Gusto or ADP for payday. That split is common and sane. Elite’s compensation benches are how mid-market HR teams overbuy.
Rippling’s product is the employee record that also unlocks payroll, benefits, apps, and devices. The week you provision a laptop and a dozen SaaS seats by hand, Rippling starts to make sense. The week you only need a PTO calendar, it is a project you do not have calendar time for.
Who should pick which
- Under 15 people, payroll is the leak: Gusto. Neither of these.
- 15–40 people, Gusto already files, Drive folder named “HR final”: BambooHR Core, then Pro when managers appear.
- IT and HR report to the same founder: Rippling quote.
- You want a PEO: Justworks, not this fork.
- You already standardized on Workforce: BambooHR next door is the usual split.
Switching later is possible and unpleasant. If you are six months from a real IT function, choose the product that still fits after that change. We are not your implementer, and this is not employment advice.
