Pick QuickBooks Online if the books are the product and your US CPA already has a login. Pick FreshBooks if you invoice for a living and the ledger can be shallower. Do not pick Simple Start “to invoice” when Wave or FreshBooks Lite would have done it. Do not pick FreshBooks Premium to satisfy a bookkeeper who only opens QBO.

QBO is a general ledger. Bank feeds, sales tax, 1099 tracking, and a close that survives an S-corp election. Workforce payroll is a sibling subscription. The UI is busier because the file is deeper.
