Is FreshBooks worth it in 2026?

FreshBooks is worth it when clients and reminders are the leak. It is not worth it as a vanity ledger your CPA will refuse.

Short answer

Yes — if you invoice for a living, track time, and need late reminders without building a stack. No — if two invoices a month would be fine on Wave, or your accountant has already standardized on QuickBooks and you would only double-enter.

The September 20, 2026 math

Lite $23/month for 5 billable clients; Plus $43 for 50; Premium $70 unlimited. Team members $11/person. Advanced Payments $20/month. Confirm freshbooks.com/pricing. Promos expire.

  • Lite vs Wave $0: you are buying reminders and a nicer client experience.
  • Plus at $43 vs QBO Simple Start $38: different jobs. Plus is AR; Simple Start is a ledger.
  • Premium at $70 vs QBO Plus $140: still not the same file.

When it is worth it

Clients ghost invoices. You bill time. You want retainers and deposits. That is why FreshBooks ranks first on freelancer invoicing and shows up on contractor and portal pages. Lite is honest until the sixth client.

When it is not

A field crew that needs Jobber. A CPA who only opens QBO. A $0 Wave file you will actually use. Buying Premium to look like a grown-up when Wave would have collected the same check.
